Mary M. (Smillie) Pitanis, 54, of Bedford, NH, died peacefully at her home, on July 25, 2012, after a long illness.
Born in Manchester, NH on December 26, 1957, she was the daughter of William Smillie Sr. and Constance (Demers) Smillie. She resided in South Manchester all her life before moving to Bedford in 2000.
Mary graduated from Manchester Memorial High School, Class of 1976.
She was employed by New England Telephone Company for twenty years and she retired in 2003 as a central office technician.
Mrs. Pitanis was a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Church.
Whether at the beach, a concert, by a sunny pool, traveling or dining out with friends or family, Mary enjoyed a full and happy life.
Family members include her loving husband of twenty-two years, John M. Pitanis of Bedford; her faithful cat Zaza, who was always at her side; brothers , Stephen Smillie of Peterborough, William Smillie, Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Chester. Nieces Stephanie and Kathleen; nephews, Scott and Timothy; a grandniece, Annabelle; several aunts, uncles, and cousins as well as many dear friends and her special caregiver Linda.
Services: There are no calling hours.
Following cremation, a memorial mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10AM in Blessed Sacrament Church, 14 South Elm Street, Manchester.
